The Pickett Family hails from England and came to the United States in the late 1600s or early 1700s, however, it is theorized that they came from France and escaped to England to escape religious persecution in the wake of the Protestant Reformation. Naturally, many of America's Founding Fathers and great military leaders, also being of English descent, are related to the family in some capacity.
Alexander Hamilton was a Founding Father of the United States and incredibly instrumental in the Revolutionary War and convincing the fledgling nation to ratify the Constitution. He is the 5th cousin of James Hayes Blair, who is the great-great-great-great-grandfather of Jay W. Pickett, Sr.
George Pickett was a U.S. general before he joined the Confederacy during secession. He is primarily known for leading Picketts Charge at the Battle of Gettysburg, which many consider to be the turning point of the Civil War, making way for the Union to win the war two years later. He is the fifth cousin of John Columbus Pickett (son of Joseph).
Note: Jimmy Carter & Charlie Daniels both share common ancestor John Phillips (1502-1551), who is the first cousin of John Griffith ap Rhys Thomas, the 9th great-grandfather of Caroline Amanda Edney Pickett. John Griffith ap Rhys Thomas is also the first cousin of Dorothy Seymour, the 13th great-grandfather of Dolly Parton.
